A new definition of government pork

The Drudge Report is having a field day reporting on what the government is doing with the "stimulus" money. One of the items listed in the listing of stimulus expenses is $2,531,600 to buy ham for the needy, soup kitchens, etc. O.K., nobody should go hungry. However, the Department of Agriculture used a no bid contract to buy the 760,000 lbs of ham at $1.50/lb. See the listing here. The same ham is available at Food Lion for $0.79/lb.
